Starting a Journey
We finally start our journey to San Miniato. After many years of taking workshops and usually working on our creations in very short periods, this will be our deepest education in the field of theatre. We are going to Matteo Destro's ATALIER Mask Movement Theatre.
Hi! I am Derya, your narrator. 🙂
Before moving forward, let's go back in time.

Berkay was born in 1995, here feeding birds around 1999. Derya was born in 1996, here chilling at home around 1998.
When I see these pictures, I also see the life ahead of them. Recently, I've been thinking about this a lot - how 'life' happens without any clue. I visited my hometown and looked back in time while going through some old photos. I saw a couple of pictures of myself with a clown nose or clown make-up, not knowing that one day I would actually become one. This feeling of surprise has arrived with a deep sense of fulfillment and appreciation.
When we reach back to the very past, this allows us to reflect on life from a bigger (human) perspective. Didn't everything start there? Most of the memories we carry from the past -all the games we played! Accidents, laughters, fights, troubles... All of these happened through games. Maybe you've already started thinking that street, those friends and old games you've played countless time. Stories created by playing, and the journey continues as it was.
Through many precious encounters in life, we eventually met physical theatre, masks, clown, bouffons... but basically, playing. Again! Our lives are now full of play, and we are on a path where we stay curious to discover more stories, characters, drama, comedy, love, friendship... I strongly feel that what we actually do in our adult lives (if we are lucky enough) is to remember our childhood after forgetting it along the way of growing up.
Matteo Destro’s school is a must-stop in this path. His journey started in the streets with a clown nose, and later he pursued his dream at L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, where he worked with Jacques Lecoq himself. It reminds me a little of our own journey. We first tried clowning in the streets and later found our way to our first physical theatre education in Türkiye with Güray Dinçol. But that's another story for another time.
Everything we share comes from our lives, with a great passion and years of work. Our creation is full of curiosity and enthusiasm, but it also needs support. You can support us by donating, or by sharing this with your family and friends if you feel it's worth supporting.
We are more than happy to share this journey with you, and we hope you enjoy as much as we do. 🙂
Stay curious,
Derya
